Hypertension: how to combat high blood pressure

High blood pressure or arterial hypertension is a problem suffered by many people, some of whom are not aware of it. On the occasion of World Hypertension Day, we reflect on a series of diets and advice that specialists have scientifically proven to lower blood pressure and that must be followed by all women suffering from hypertension.

How to treat hypertension

  • Have an ideal weight. Losing weight if we have extra kilos has been shown to lower stress. If, on the contrary, we gain weight, the tension rises.
  • Physical exercise lowers stress; walking between 45 minutes and an hour a day lowers the pressure of our arteries.
  • Reduce the consumption of salt and salty foods, the less salt we take, the lower and our blood pressure.
  • Alcohol increases stress, especially if we drink more than a glass of wine or a bottle of beer a day.
  • Stress treatment aims to lower blood pressure figures below 140 maximum and 90 minimum.
  • In sick women who are diabetic or with kidney disease lower blood pressure levels have to be achieved.
  • With different medications we manage to lower blood pressure, often needing to take more than one medication. It is always recommended to take the pill every day and preferably in the morning.
  • Medicines for blood pressure can cause discomfort to patients, which should be reported to your doctor.
  • The first doctor and nursing visits have to be more often at the beginning of the treatment. Once the hypertension is controlled, a visit every 3 or 4 months by the nurse and an annual review by the doctor is enough.
  • During these visits, the treatment and diets will be reviewed, blood pressure will be measured two or more times and it will be assessed if there is any damaged organ. Other factors that affect circulation, such as cholesterol, tobacco, and high blood sugar, will also be controlled.
