Sleeping with the mobile nearby: Very dangerous for your health

Surely you do this every night: you go to bed with your mobile phone, check all the social networks, answer the last WhatsApp of the day, set the alarm to wake up the next morning and immediately after leaving the mobile on with Wi-Fi placed on top of the nightstand. Of course, you have to have it very close to connect again as soon as the sun rises and you open an eye. We are not wrong, aren’t we? In the current society in which we live, the use of this technological device is increasingly essential, but do you really know how harmful it is to sleep with your mobile nearby? Yes, this daily habit is very dangerous for your health and if you don’t believe it, keep reading!

Why sleeping with your mobile nearby is very dangerous for your health

The mobile phone has undergone a dizzying evolution in recent years and, as a consequence, we have become tremendously dependent to such an extent that we do not separate from it in the sun or in the shade. We take it with us even when we go to the bathroom, we have it on 24 hours a day and if at any time we go out and forget it at home, we feel naked. It is true that it makes life much easier, more comfortable and much more entertaining, but to what extent is it good for our health to live glued to the phone and, above all, to sleep with it next to it? These are the dangers of sleeping with your mobile nearby:

  • Modifies the circadian cycle: The fact that the radiation emitted by mobile phones is not visible does not mean that it does not exist. Our organs work through electrical pulses and when they have to face these radioactive waves, the rhythm can vary and alter both our life cycle and our biological clock. These alterations mean that we do not rest properly and one hundred percent, we stay up several times during the night, our sleep is not of quality and we have more nightmares than usual.
  • It favors the appearance of cancer: The experts of the World Health Organization (WHO) warn that everyone should stay away from any electronic device when it is time to go to sleep, since the radioactive waves that they emit and to which we are exposed, can lead to real tragedies for our health. The main one of all is the risk of suffering from any type of cancer.
  • Forbidden to charge the mobile at night: Do you change your mobile just before going to sleep? If the answer is yes, you should be aware that you are doing it wrong. This time of day is the worst time to hook your mobile charger to the socket, especially if you have the habit of placing it under your pillow in the meantime. The reason is very simple. The mobile phone tends to get quite hot when it is being charged and the material with which the pillows are made is highly flammable and is not made to withstand this type of use. What consequences can it bring? An overload that can burn the skin.
  • Technological insomnia: If you leave your mobile on the nightstand while you sleep, the only thing you will achieve is affect your nervous system and be alert throughout the night. The light notifications and the vibrations that the phone emits affect the hormone responsible for regulating sleep, reducing its production and making it much more difficult to fall asleep. This type of insomnia is called technological insomnia since there are even people who do not get a good rest in bed because they wake up every so often to see if they have anything new on their mobile.
  • Stress and headache: Another of the things that is most discouraged when it comes to using the mobile phone at night is to consult it just before going to bed. This is a very common trend among people and all we are getting is exciting the brain. In the long term, all this can lead to headaches, lack of concentration, permanent bad mood and a constant need to look at the mobile at all hours, which can make our lives really crazy.

How and where to leave the mobile when we go to bed

You have three options: the first of them and the most preferable is to turn it off. Once turned off, you can choose to leave it away from you or put it on the nightstand if you use it as an alarm clock. There is no excuse, today’s phones are programmed so that the alarm sounds the same even if they are turned off. The second option is to leave it on, but in a room far from yours, such as the kitchen or living room. And if neither of these two alternatives convinces you because you consider that someone may try to contact you in the middle of the night for an emergency, the third option is to turn off the Internet connection or Wi-Fi so that, at least, you avoid radio frequencies.
