Popular wisdom has always led us to believe that women suffered fewer myocardial infarctions than men, and it is so. Women suffer fewer heart attacks than the opposite sex up to age 50, since from this age both have the same probability of suffering it. Furthermore, although women are less prone to this type of attack, when they suffer it, it is more likely to cause death than in the case of men. That is, women suffer fewer heart attacks, but more seriously.
Women have fewer heart attacks than men.
- It is scientifically proven that young women suffer fewer heart attacks than young men, but the number of those affected by the two sexes equalizes when women reach menopause. That is, from the age of 50, as many men and women share the same probability of suffering a heart attack. And the data rises when they are between 60 and 70 years old.
- Many specialists believe that it is the female hormones, estrogen that protect women from heart attacks. However, others believe that it is testosterone in men that causes the greatest number of men with heart attacks. Other factors have also been included as determinants for women, such as diabetes, which increases the risk of suffering a heart attack. Similarly, oral contraceptives increase this risk, since this type of contraceptive causes the appearance of venous thrombosis and therefore the secondary formation of arteriosclerosis, which translates into a heart attack.
- Both sexes are equally affected by stress. This emotional disorder can lead to the appearance of myocardial infarctions. The busy life that we lead, the rush, the concern for the economy, among others, are the causes of this problem. So we must relax as much as we can to avoid suffering from stress and that it triggers something more problematic for our health.
